Origins of "Scientific Kite Flying"

"Scientific Kite Flying" is a term coined long before the Wrights' 1901 experiments, most notably by two of Whitehead's employers, J.B. Millet and Edward I. Horsman.

Gustave Whitehead was hired as Chief Mechanic for America's first aviation organisation - The Boston Aeronautical Society - by the publisher, J.B.Millet. In 1897, Millet was one of three authors who wrote a paper for the publication, "Scientific Kite Flying":
