Whitehead's Machine 21 - the first roadable aircraft

The author of this website never intended to research the issue of "first flight". He was only commissioned to research the history of "flying cars".

Photographs of Whitehead's aircraft are hard to find. However, the ones below illustrating its roadability were only discovered after a multi-year search.



Quite by accident it was discovered, history's first successful flight was made in a "flying car".

The irony?

This author was commissioned to research flying cars for a Smithsonian Channel documentary! (The Smithsonian Institute is the guardian of the Wright Flyer.)
