MACHINES FOR FLYING
The inventor, August Whitehead, who has built several flying machines, has just finished one which imitates the shape of a condor, and which promises good results. He says that with other, less perfect machines, he has managed to fly five miles.
The latest product of his genius looks like a huge bird with wings 20 feet long, propelled by a gasoline motor, in which Whitehead takes up position in the bird’s body.
To gain momentum, the aeronaut starts running until it gains lift and rises. He then puts his faith in the device’s ability to be steered in any direction via its birdlike tail.
The device weighs, in total, 600 to 800 pounds and can be folded for convenient transportion.
