Whitehead, aeronaut, inventor and sailor,

made the first attempt to launch his latest

flying machine, which was described in the

HERALD of October 5, off Jersey City Heights

at the foot of Nelson Avenue, opposite Snake

Hill, yesterday afternoon. It took him and

his assistants about two hours to rig up the

machine, and by the time he was ready the

wind had sifted and bore down upon the

airship frustrating all attempts to launch it....

 

 

...The attempt caused great excitement in the

neighbourhood and from the Heights and from the

road below hundreds of persons watched...
