Edward Imeson Horsman (left) first brushed shoulders with the model airplane when Gustave Whitehead (right) worked for him in the 1890's. Horsman played a leading, if not the leading role in popularizing first kites, and then, in the period around 1908-1912, model airplanes and other flying devices to the trade. At the lower left is pictured one of Whitehead's experimental model airplanes of the 1890's.
